There was such a buzz in the room last night as Mimi Mollica mesmerised us with his wonderful presentation; his work stands alone and it was fascinating to see some of the images from each of his major projects, but it was also a real treat to listen to him talk about his work, photography and his approach to life. Helped by his wonderfully exotic accent and charismatic hold on his audience, he inspired and entertained us in equal measure. His three watchwords are
discovery, engagement and
communication, and he shared with us his journey, from having his first camera aged eight, to coming to London at twenty and finding the magic of photography. He doesn't like to be confined by such labels as 'street' or 'journalism', instead he urged us to feel for images with our hearts as well as our heads and have the confidence to take the pictures we see. After the break, Mimi answered questions and led a lively discussion on the issues his presentation raised for us all.
