Competition 3 - Open

On a wet and windy night, we welcomed Roger Reynolds, FRPS  (seven times over) to be our judge for the third competition of the society year. There was no set theme for this event and the subjects covered ranged from a portrait of a contortionist, through landscapes and abstracts to an army helicopter in action. The improved system for submitting entries meant that we were able to send the images for Roger to look through beforehand, and his comments were considered and constructive and he used the full range of marks: we all got the message about checking the edges of images - in prints and DPIs for odd artifacts spoiling the view. His other strong message was to consider cropping out areas of the image which seemed redundant - too much sky or boring foregrounds for instance. As always, we applauded those members whose images were awarded top marks out of twenty and put their pictures on one side, ready for external competitions. We also applauded our excellent team of competition organisers who ensured the smooth running of what was a very enjoyable evening.

And congratulations too to Natalie Robinson, the worthy winner of 'Bridges' in the November Flickr Pick of the Week competition.

Thanks to Rob and Ben for the images in this report.
